Custom Extra TPI Plow Bolt

We were supplying tungsten coated edges to a large mining company when we were asked to consider how they could get better performance out of their 1-1/4” X 4-1/8” UNC (7TPI) plow bolts. Under harsh conditions they seemed to be working loose. Regardless of what brand they tried they were still losing bolts, and equipment failure in mining is not an option.

We asked the customer about using a fine thread bolt. As is often the case many companies shy away from fine thread bolts as they damage easily and can be difficult to remove if used with a mechanical cone nut.

We decided to try something a little different. We made a trial batch of 3000 1-1/4” x 4-1/8” UNC (8TPI) plow bolts and nuts to suit.

The extra thread per inch was all it took to secure the bolts in place perfectly. The customer doesn’t even need to use cone nuts.

Our very own longer series grade 8 nut works perfectly.

This example in not so much about the bolt, but more about just how determined ATC GROUP is to solve problems that are presented to us.
